Above the ordinary
In summer, shepherds and foragers climb towards green high-altitude pastures, some rising beyond 4,200 metres. The season is brief, the paths are demanding, and every harvest depends upon patience. Tumburuk and other treasured botanicals are gathered in small quantities, then carried down from landscapes shaped by snowmelt, sun and silence.
An inheritance of observation
For generations, families across Baltistan have learned when a plant is ready, which part to gather, how to dry it, and how it has traditionally been prepared. This knowledge was not written in laboratories; it was refined through seasons of careful observation and passed from elders to children beside hearths, fields and summer camps.
